Just ordered it from gmpartsdirect. Anyone hear anything about the new standard? How much better is it supposed to be than Dex III?

I'll bet money that its an improved additive package... I'll almost bet that we'll be seeing a lot more GM trannies sealed for life from the factory
Almost forgot, did you notice that you 4T45-E has no dipstick?
You'll have to measure what comes out, and put that much back in...

In 95 with the new Dexron III, most GM FWD transmissions were good for 100K if not seriously abused.... All of the new 4T40-E'* at the time were seald for life from the factory due to the new additive package of the Dex III and better longlife seals of the trans... This continued over to the 4T45-E... The 4T40-E was attached to 4cylinders most of the time... From 95-98 the N bodies and most all Quads and 3100'* and 3400 were still attached to the 4T60-E... In 99 most of the Quad, 3100 and 3400 applications went to the 4T45-E as the 4T60-E was being dropped...
So the 4T40-E and 4T45-E are sealed from the factory... There should be a red cap of plug on the top of the trans... But no dipstick
Also most of the 4T80-E'* are seald from the factory as well if memory serves and they too have that same plug on the top of the tranny....
That only leaves the 4T65-E

Yeah funny you mention the little fill hole. when I bought the car I searched for 30 mins for the "dip stick" then got P%ssed off and bought a repair manual and found the hole.

Sealed for life. What the heck are they making them out of to make it unnecessary to change the fluid.
Somehow this makes me think of the hype about Dexcool.
