I guess either way I would run it at manufacture'* recommendations.
They have more than likely accounted for expansion and fun stuff like that. So I would run it at the full mark.

overfilling a transmission is a bad thing! THe fluid level will be so high that fluid will reach areas that it typically would not and the fluid will burn and begin to foam up from the heat. Too much fluid can cause the fluid to foam, which in turn can lead to erratic shifting, oil starvation and transmission damage. Foam doesn't lubricate like liquid does. overfilling is most definately a BAD THING do NOT do it!

Think of overfilling trans fluid or engine oil as a bad thing. Best real life example I can give would be to put yourself in a cage with a top. Now fill to your neck. You are perfectly happy and can live that way forever. This is the recommended fluid level. Now over fill and you drown. Same with your engine/trans, they don't drown to speak, but parts that shouldn't be under fluid are and that is bad.
An engine that is too overful can't breathe properly and the crank will be in a pond, causing the same foaming etc from splashing around. Like others mentioned, foam doesn't lubricate.
Don't drown your car. It doesn't drown you in the passenger compartment.
(Disclaimer: Don...sorry...but I thought of you on that last one)

My theory is.....They don't just put "FULL" marks and lettering on dipsticks of engine'* and tranny'* just because they thought "Hey this looks good." Plus with engine oill......the higher the engine revs, the lower the level gets because of the pump sucking it in at a constat pace rate until the RPM'* come back down and the level will some what return to normal. Same thing with trannys.

I always put 1/2 quart EXTRA into the trans when filling. The 4t65E has a fluid starvation defect where its possible on a hard left turn for the trans not to have enough fluid where it needs to be. An extra 1/2 quart helps take care of this.
