A $900 black hood, for looks. Most imports do it, because they need to start shaving lots of weight at a point.
It'* also hard to paint because the weave will show thru the paint. The new z06 vettes for 2004 (the commemorative ones) and htey have a carbon hood. The difference is noticeable, but chevy did a good job.

Might not be that much of a difference. If you're that worried about weight, ditch the carpet, get racing seats, and get lighter glass. Rolling weight is a HUGE problem, and the farther out it is, the worse of an effect it is. I bet Ryan noticed it going from 16" winter rubber to 18" chromies.

An aluminum hood? You mean like the 00+ Bonnevilles? Better idea, but something about them makes them hate bra'*. Might be the different primer/paint combination they use on them.
I think it'* ridiculous to put on a cf hood to save weight after adding a bunch of worthless ground effects and wing that ADD weight. But they do it.
Oh, and I made up all that stuff about the paint. I was on a roll last night.

Jason, I've suggested that as a possible solution to the 00+ bra problem (at least as an explanation anyway) but I don't think many people gave it much merit.

I knew my depleted uranium would come in handy someday...
Wait, arnt our cars FWD??? And dont we want the weight over the front wheels that are under the HOOD? I think it would make more sense to have a CF trunk than a CF hood on a FWD car. Isn't this part of the reason that 00+ Bonnies are slower than the 96-99 flavors? Correct me if I'm wrong.
