For sure do a L27 in that thing. Heck, if you can get a little turbo kit put together with it you could make for one more crazy 91 SSE (Merlin'* turbo'ed 91 SSE, Randman'* 91 SSE with Series II L67 conversion).
Combined with the 3.33 gearing a turbo L27 would really be awesome. Would have to kiss that tranny bye-bye very shortly though.

I have actually thought of getting 2 L27'*( they are a dime a dozen here $130 if memory serves ) and swaping out both.... The balance shaft in the SSE is quiet... The one in the LE make noise( drives me nuts )....
I was thinking if I was to get an L27 I would like to port the heads, and port the intake manifold( I think my friend has another in his shed )... Eeven an L27 would have more than enough guts to move an SSE with 3.33 gears...

Nice new ride Don. Any plans for a complete whorage? The car doesn't need to be pretty to be in a photoshoot.
There are TONS of LE'* and SE'* around here (all of them are junkers), very few junker SSE'*, and not one mint SSE to my knowledge. It'* such a rare occurance to see and SSE around here, I remember where all of the parked ones are located.

Tinkered with it for a few little bit today... It runs odd, like the ECM is getting crappy, or the Magnavox ICM is weak... But with 250,000 miles the motor could be on its last leg, no idea how much the car may have been abused...
The Water pump is totally gone... I'm almost getting the idea that the previous owner may have ran this motor very hot..
A couple of things I would like to take care of, possibly on my days off if the weather coperates with me... I may replace the Intake gaskets, and valve cover gaskets as well as the water pump... There seemed to be a little oil in the water, but not the other way around... I have been looking over the motor, and it has got to be all original... I can't find a bolt that has been turned...
If its the original trans, then I am shocked...
But the oil pressure is good.... The lowest I have seen was 40psi before the oil change and now it stays between 50-60 Psi... It has a ticking lifter, while I have the intake and valve covers off I may just toss in a set I have... see if it makes any diffrence... At least the balance shaft in this one is quiet...
I am having an issues with the 91 LE, look for a post on that in a little while...
