Heck.. you all lose to Randman, far as I can tell. He'* had NA, SC, NA and had SC, then rolled that into SC, SC, NA and scrap while suppling his buddy Boost with 1/2 a cars worth of parts.
Soooo til you get a motor into something that it didn't originally belong in... go have a beer and plan a project.
In the car game of poker NA NA NA and SC SC ?? still gets beat by SC SC project and NA.
Now I'm gonna go prep for a mini meet!

Its pretty rough, and has 250K on it... But its a Florida car, and the underside of the car is clean... Free of rust... The engine has the typical oil leaks that a high milage 3800 would have...
So its a 1991 SSE, with the newer Antilock brake system, and the Maxifuse relay center... It does have the GX3 trans which still works( amazingly ).... It has the FE2 suspension, with the ELC and amazingly that too still functions as it should... The Compass and DIC are still functional as well( that freaked me out ).... The seats still operate, with the exception that the Recliner motors are shot... Other than that they move in all directions... And the Lower, mid and upper lumbars as well as the headrests also function... The Power Locks work, the windows work, Couple of the motors are weak...
The Pwr mirrors don't work, the switches on the drivers side doors for the DIC are bad, all of the others are fine, even the hood switch... They cut the factory wiring harness for the stereo, so I will need to fix that, they installed a diffrent steering collum, and I don't think it has the steering wheel control adapter... The ECC is dead, the blower motor is stuck on...
In any event there is a lot that needs to be done, I want to strip out the interior and make sure all of the wiring is ok, and replace the carpet... May do the headliner while I'm at it...
My biggest concern was seeing if the motor was indeed locked.... It turns out that it wasn't... The starter has some bad fields or shot brushes in it.... Its weak..... From what I understand his stepson pulled the Bonnie into the yard and it never started again...
I found a couple of things the first day.... The battery was totally dead... and the car was about 5 quarts overfilled with oil( smoked like a candle on steroids )...
Next day, I put the 1000amp batter on the charger and borrowed the 950 from my 91 LE.... Installed it and the compass and DIC lit up with the other lights... I hit the key and it was sluggish like crazy... Finally it did start and stall a few times... Then it started to run.... I had to keep the revs up a bit and mash the throttle a couple of times to keep it going... After a few minutes it was able to idle on its own.... But it was hella crappy... The plugs were fouled...
Yesterday I replaced the plugs, and tried the fully charged battery, and it started pretty good... I let it run a while and get up to temp.... I did fine... But was about out of fuel... That little gas tank with the Low Fuel in the DIC let me know it was hungry for more... So I poured my gas for the lawn mower in there 2.8 gallons I think... Just enough for the Low fuel to go out for a few minutes...
I also got the seat backs to the driveable position.... Finally.... I drove the car around the yard and mashe it a time or 2.... Did I say I was amazed that the tranny still worked...?
I parked it on the driveway to notice that the water was running out( water pump totally shot )...
Man O man is this car going to be fun...
After the ELC test I back the car off the driveway a bit so that the ELC would thing the rear was too low as there was more weight on it... And sure engough the back end went up.... I pulled it back on the driveway and sure enough, after half a minute or so the rear started to drop...
So some things work and others dont... Who knew...
So what do you asll think of my $100 project car...
And I am contemplating using an L27 Longblock ( 1993-1995 )

I actually thought it was a 90 before I looked under the hood... I didn't see the Bosch/Teves brake system used from 88-90 in the bonnies and was confused... I looked on the drivers die at the framerail and poof there was the PMV... I told my friend this isn't a 90 its a 91... I think 3 Bonnevilles is more than enough.... 2 was enough... The 3rd is the toy
And yes, I'sa redneck boss

Sounds like one helluva project car for you Don.
The story is very similar to my experience before I bought the 94 Ei.
Theres a local used car lot not far from my house that had a pretty rough looking 90SSE, white on gold laced rims and funky blue interior. Knowing that I wanted a winter car, I figured the SSE would be decent. I had some experience with the LN3 so it was worth a shot.
It had over 350 000 kms (not as many miles as yours...but almost).
The dude called me back a few weeks later and said they were gonna junk it. The amount of money and time involved in fixing would not equate to even a blue book selling price. :?
Had you lived HERE (lol) we coulda had another project car...but I digress.
Congrats on the new ride!

Yeah Jim... I know what you mean... and if it had be dirt cheap I most likely would have gotten it... There is just something about the Old 88-91 SSE that I love dearly... I am glad that the underpinnings of the car are in good shape... almost 15 years and the body is still together... Honestly, I don't think GM builds them the was they did with the 87-91 Models.... Amazing how many 89-91 Bonnies I still see on the road..

I see a lot of them around here as well. There are a few 89-91 SSEs around that are in MINT and I meant TOTALLY MINT condition, others, heh, not so good.
I believe its a testament to the LN3 powerplant. It was in so many cars and I still see a ton of them on the roads. Granted the bodies arent in such great shape, but 16 winters in Ontario will do that to ya :(
