I think you kind of have to admit that by 98, the Bonneville was still pretty much exactly the same as it was in 1992, with a Series II instead of a Series I and a couple appearance tweaks to the front end and tail. Functionally, it hadn't changed. Look at the cars they were comparing it to. Frankly, I wouldn't even consider most of those cars in the same class. Dodge Intrepid? I'd say more like a Chrysler 300 maybe. I can see the Nissan Maxima and if I'm really forgiving, the Accord and Camry, but those are better compared against the Grand Prix. But give me a break: a Subaru Lagacy, a Passat, and a Taurus? Seriously, if I were to consider competitors to a Bonneville, I'd be thinking Lexus LS, Infinity I30, BMW 700 series, Chrysler 300, and that sort of thing. I don't know that a Bonneville would rate very good against that sort of competition either, but I think the point is the same, that by 1998 that Bonneville hadn't really changed much since 1992. It didn't really get a modern makeover until the 2000 models came out, and had the 2000 been out in 1998, I think it would have compared favorably with some of the models I just mentioned.
Yeah, they panned the 1998 Bonneville, but really, LOOK at that list. If you could take your pick of any one of those 1998 cars as a used car today, which would you want? I'd pick the Bonneville, hands down.

That last review sucked. Comparing the Bonneville to a Taurus? Give me a break! They are'nt even in the same class! At 150,000 my Taurus is choking while the almost 200,000 my Bonneville still drives like new, not to mention the refinements and power. Out of all those cars you would have to be crazy not to pick the Bonneville. This is why I stopped reading C&D a while ago. That and they praise imports as the be-all end-all of vehicles while ripping on cars that GM actually does right. A bunch of whiney old farts who are probably pocketing money from Honda every time they lick their boots in their reviews. ![Roll Eyes](https://www.gmforum.com/gm/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Dodge Intrepid? Do you know how many of those were on the road when it came out? Do you wonder how today you can hardly spot them while you still see the old Bonnevilles on the road? Intrepids were nothing but lemons, and thank god we avoided them since we alsmot bought one before we found out about the Bonneville.
Regarding the comment about the 98 being nearly the same as the 92: There are alot of other cars that have gone just as long or longer without any significant changes. If it aint broken dont fix it but thats besides the point. The only complaints you hear are college drop out journalist wannabees who somehow get a job at reviewing cars and start posting crap because they want something hip or cool like a Scion. :P Seriously if you ever read some of the reviews from one of the car review sites you will know what I mean.
