What do you men firmer? Are we talking about them being a little touchy? If so you'll get used to the system..

You might be due for a master cylinder failure....
The Clamps on my 95 are quite good...
Try bleeding the entire system and see if it gets better...

prolly take it to brake masters for their flush and bleed. i dont like dealing too much with brakes. something about not stopping if i mess it up, with nobody to blame but me

well, was able to get a reman MC for $40.52 through a dealer hookup. Brakemasters charged $102+tax to put it in and bleed brakes.
but man, this car stops
left marks in the tar on the road from where they patched the cracks in front of my parents house

Don't go nuts just yet. The new MC is great, but the 2 front brake hoses might not be able to handle all that new pressure and may start breaking down inside. This is especially true if the car is over 100k. If you blow one, new MC or not, you're not stopping.
Just something to consider.
