The difference in handling, build quality, brakes, transmission, safety, etc are quite different between a Pontiac and a BMW. Nothing against the Bonnie, but it is what it is.

my friend has a 740iL... Very nice looking car and even though i REALLY LIKE the BMW i dont think i would trade off the bonnie for the bmw, i know of a group of people that got together becuase of the MANY problems they had with there 7'* i think the site is http://www.bmwlemon.com/ a lot of it is blown out of proportion because there not HORRIBLE PILES of sheetmetal but a few like any other car maker had there share of problem childs. So there is no Perfect car, just go with what makes you enjoy your driving experience. Thats my 2 Cents.

I was driving the bonnie tonight and it dawned on me, i really would rather harve my LUXURIOUS, SPORTY, SHARP LOOKING Bonneville over most any car any day. The bonneville is the Complete package, you get everything HUD, Bose, Memory seats, Supercharger, Leather, Heated Seats, Dual Auto Climate, ETC ETC! You get a LOT of bang for your buck, i have never driven a bmw with HUD, wonder why they dont use it?

So here'* a blast from the past. I Googled "Bonneville vs 740iL" today, and this thread showed up at the top of the list. Honestly, I'd completely forgotten I'd ever posted this question here.
So here'* an almost seven year later update:
I still have the Bonneville, it'* still my daily driver, and it'* still in terrific shape. It now has just over 175,000 miles.
I've had my (not-supercharged) Bonneville at a drag strip paired up against a 740iL, and my Bonneville beat it in all respects. I'm sure that the BMW has a higher top speed and probably handles better in cornering, but the drag strip result was just one more reason for me to stick with my Bonneville. I'm very happy with my decision, and will keep my Bonneville as long as it continues to hold up.
