Super Sh**y edition. Idiot.
Sorta like ford and SEL... Same story. I think.
I think they named it after the power company I used to owe big money to. Perhaps it was Lake Bonneville which had a huge a** river that I live a 1/2 mile from.
Like here, in this picture I took on saturday, you can see how there used to be a big-a** river that flowed thru here from the lake.
Over time the water level dropped and eventually is where it is now.
SSEi is open for discussion. Wait, no its not. But it is fun to come up with acronyms for it. And yes if your in Oregon you need to stop by the KOA when we are partying it up.

Yup the SSE means nothing. I thought the "i" had something to do with the supercharged engine. maybe 'i' for induction? But more than likely it was a silly GM marketing ploy to compete with european cars.
GTO stands for Gran Turismo Omologato. (the official name)
aka - Great To Operate ,

The "i" couldn't mean induction since every car is "inducted." If it was SSEfi, 'fi' being "forced induction," then it would make sense. But it would look dumb.
But as we know, it means nothing.
They were competing with BMWs at the time, and in commercials called it simply, the "Pontiac SSEi." Like "BMW 325i" I suppose, though I've always thought the BMW "i" means inline for the inline 6.

Here is another thing. Did anyone find it odd that on the 92-95 SSEis, the word "Bonneville" is found nowhere on the car? I remember back in '94 when I went to the dealer with my uncle, even the owner of the car dealership called it a "Pontiac SSEi." And my uncle asked him, "Well, it is still is a bonneville, correct?" And the dealer replied with "Well, yes." Even the dealer found it was odd that "Bonneville" could not be found on the car anywhere.

"Bonneville" is not printed on the outside of the 2000 either, but the headlamp on mine has the name in slightly raised letters. Though it is nearly impossible to see.
