I laugh at y'all who change every 3k even on synthetics. I change at around 4500 or 5k on standard oil, so I wouldn't hesitate to go to 10k on synthetic.

Studies have shown time and time again that oil and filters can go up to 5k at no detriment to the engine. Anything more than that is just paranoia and putting more money in companies pockets.

If I remember right, 5000 mile on a oil change was common years back. Then all of a sudden it was 3 months or 3000 miles. Sounds a bit like the oil companies trying to sell more oil. I go 9k on mobil1. My only problem with high mileage oil is you start to forget about it and neglect the engine.

The best way to determine how far to go on an oil change is get an oil analysis. Your local NAPA store should stock the kits, The part number is 4077, and should be around 15 bucks.

I'm probably not old enough to remember that, but it sounds correct to me.

Then not too long ago (late 90s) they started releasing oil studies showing that it was completely unneeded. Oil companies were pissed until they invented synthetics and could overcharge on those.
