1996 Pontiac Bonneville SE Info
I've been looking around, and it seems I'm finding better deals on '96 Bonneville SEs than '92 Se Bonnevilles. How are the '96 SE Bonnies in comparison with the '92s? I have not had the ability to drive either yet.
My current drive is a 1990 LeSabre Custom, which I must say I love, It handles better and Is much torquier (with the greatest engine the 3800) than a friend'* '97 Cutlass Supreme SL sedan. The LeSabre is probablt the best FWD car I have driven, being I usually drive RWD vehicles.
How would you describe in an unbiased, accurate way, the 1996 Bonneville SE compard to the '92 SE and '90 LeSabre, as far as accelaration, handling, body roll, and anything else. Please describe AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, thank you!

Hands down performance to the 96 SE. But you trade a POSSIBLE upper intake failure for 'only a matter of when' burnt valves on the 92. 92 is 170hp, the 96 is 205. The 96 also has the advantage of having the less-troublesome 4T60E trans (like the 92). The 96 is also the first year of the fully compliant OBD2 PCM, so no hybrid crap like we had in 94/95.
96 was a good year. Almost as good as 93.

94 lost the ECC on board diagnostics.
94 is a nasty hybrid OBD1/2 PCM.
94 is quite different in schematics and component location (electronics).
94 was the first (curses) year of the CCR system.
94 is the first year of the linear EGR valve.
94 is more different from 93 than 92 is.

Thanks for the info. I'm not looking to do any mods any time soon. Just looking for power and handling (mainly). Is the 205hpSeries II 3800 A big improvement over the 170hp 3800?

HUGE improvement. It'* the torque, baby! And where that hp and tq curve is, and how flat it stays on the L67. I've driven both side by side several times (Jseabert'* 93SSE) and there is no comparison. Not that the L27 is bad, cuz it ain't. In it'* own way, it'* a torquey beast as well. Surprising.
