I know when I'm working on my car and have a doors open or the trunk open the lights will turn off after a little while.

Sometimes all a battery takes is one decent discharge and then it is toast. Hope that is not the case for you.
I be watching for an update!

So anyway, I check the charger and it'* down to a trickle, and the battery eye is green, so I disconnect everything and hop in. Turn on the ignition and all the defaults show up: stereo clock showing 1:01, all presets forgotten, HVAC set at 75°, etc. Starter sounds great and engine fires right up, so I roll it out into the driveway and sit in the evening light while I reset the stations.
Suddenly the car turns its lights on. Hey, it hasn't done that right for a year or more. Maybe something just needed a reboot. I think to try the steering wheel controls... hey, they're working again! I go for a drive, and everything else feels good, so the crisis is over.
So what I _think_ happened was that the car inadvertently killing itself gave it the opportunity to reboot all the processors that are usually running 24/7. I haven't disconnected the battery for as long as I can remember, but completely draining it like that achieved the same thing. I'm thinking one or two systems went a little bonkers over time with various power fluctuations or whatever, and interrupting power to those things that usually don't _get_ a reset may have been just what they needed. The battery seems to have recovered _this_ time, and hopefully this won't happen again. Letting the charger boost the battery to probably 105% power probably didn't hurt the system voltage either; I don't have a voltmeter in the SSEi but I imagine it'* at the upper end of the operating range at the moment.
So I'm going to count my blessings and just get on with my life... Next up, I gotta deal with another turn-signal lever headache in the spouse'* minivan... See a post today in the General Chat area asking for GM Parts gurus...
