Bring back the Edit button
#11
You know what I found that works on other boards, only allowing posts to be edited for a very short time after it was posted. Like 30 minutes or so. That way if you post something up and then realize something isn't right or simply want to add to it you can do so as long as it'* within that 30 minute time frame. But after that time passes, that'* all she wrote.
Does that sound like a compromise you guys would be willing to discuss?

This would absolutely accomplish everything that'* important to him as well as not inundating those two members with edit requests. Had the 30 minute rule been in place all of that data would not have been lost as it was.

The edit button has been gone for a year, my two lead people have Not been inundated. I Admins many Forums serving 100k people. I know a little more than the average hack about vB.
We did use the timed edit button when we took over the Forum. It was misused by people loyal to the faction that brought the original Forum down and spammers in two ways I prefer not to elaborate on. I encourage suggestions, and when I see one worthwhile and safe, I have implemented them many times here. But this one is not happening again. And not going to waste my online time available debating further. dh2

And I don't mean to come out so strong about it. It'* an inconvenience I tried to overcome but met with frustration. We tried variants of the edit permission and it'* just one of those things that seem to have people thinking outside the box to use to their advantage. So I felt it best to just turn it off altogether and do the little extra work if and when someone wants something changed.

Time is the only variable I have in vB for editing. It stands as is, for Supporters. I'm going to close this thread. This issue is solved as far as I am willing to go.
