the pinging is called spark knock. it is when the fuel is not rich enough in octane. it is bad,realy bad it can burn a hole in the piston. so spend the money and buy premium gas

well, i filled my car up with premium and will be doing so from now on-haven't noticed better mpg yet though. thanks.

Remember, everyone'* mileage will be worse in the winter, regardless of octane.
