pinging and engine cutout
Hello again! Last time things went well with the info, hopefully this time too!
on to the carnage-------
1992 bonneville ssei 145,000 miles. I will be getting a pinging sound from the engine under moderate acceleration and a lot of the time, it will bog completely down. By completely down I mean that it will whine, ping, and go NOWHERE. The boost gauge will flutter and peg under full throttle but ZERO response from the engine. It is a feeling similar to when you run out of gas, (I have a 92, so the gas tank and out of gas is another experience) but, it has the same feeling like running out of gas. I have no idea where to go from here, any help would be great!! you guys rock, as usual.

"Starved for fuel? Has the problem kinda crept up to the point it'* at?"
First let me say that it is intermittent, BUT it is continuting to get worse day by day. I have checked the fuel pressure with the car off and running, all within specs. I have eliminated fuel problems, which leads me to sensors (yet no codes) or ignition (notorious in these cars) even though the wires aren't that old, I am going to replace them and the plugs. I will pull the coils and check them too. I am kind of leaning towards the module, just for the fact that sometimes it runs spectacular, and sometimes it falls on its face. So, yes, i would say it is "creeping up on me"

Does it get worse with a warmer car? Did you check fuel pressure as the car is moving, tape a pressure gauge to the windshield coming out from under the hood? I ask because my fuel pressure was fine at idle when my pump was dying. It got worse as the pump warmed up.

i will tape the gauge today.... as for the difference when warmed up or cold, doesn't seem to matter.... same. When this happens under a hard acceleration, it will feel like a major backfire and TOTAL loss of power, fluctuating gauges, sometimes stalling. If i feather the pedal it will recoop, bizarre.....

well my guage is too short.... i know, i know.... heard it before...hahaha.... BUT, I couldn't read it while in the car. I was paying more attention to when it is cutting out and losing everything with a pop under the hood. It seems (today) that it only did it when it was fully warmed up.... I did replace the wires and plugs last night, seemed to help a bit, until warmed up. Bad Coil? Bad Ign Mod? Bad Fuel pump?? any thoughts? I was waiting for Willren to Jump in, he has come through in the past!! HELP!!!
