Default 92-93 M62 bypass information

Basically, is the bypass valve on the 92-93 M62'* totally controled by vaccum or does it have an electronic aspect to it?

Thanks! (pics would be even cooler). My mockup M62 didn't come with one.

It'* vacuum controlled through a solonoid which is controlled via the PCM based on engine load and throttle position.

Doh, sorry for the wrong forum action!

Thanks for the info

Do you know if it could be setup to run ONLY on vaccum/boost?

It will do its thing through vacuum only. But you lose the ability to dump boost during shifts (without lifting the throttle, anyway).

When do you dump boost when shifting? It should be lower if your not at WOT but that is because you are at a lower RPM.

Does it not dump a little when it shifts? What does lower RPM have to do with boost? It'* a positive displacement pump, same boost all the time at the same throttle position.

John'* right. It momentarily dumps at shift to protect the trans. The FSM clearly calls this out. You may not have noticed, nor be ABLE to notice, but it does.

Well this is going on my xB with a manual trans, so lifting off the throttle is a given.

Any pics or anything on setting it up to run on vaccum only? Any close up pics of the actual valve from a 92/93 would be awesome too!

Thanks for the info so far guys!

hmm...

Maybe I'm way off here or not thinking strait but the PCM dumps boost to protect the trans but does not need to for the operation of the supercharger. This can be programmed out or made less drastic (like how they pull timing on newer cars) And it is a supercharger that is belt driven so the higher the engine'* RPM the faster the supercharger spins so peek boost is RPM dependent.

Boost may vary just a little bit by RPM, but barely.
