Your new stereo may not be compatible with OnStar or even your steering wheel controls. What is the make and model of your stereo.

When you swith headunits you lose your steering wheel controls, on star and all your chimes. These all play through your stereo. I know there are adapters you can buy to get you steering wheel controls back, you can get them from zzperformance.com. I'm not sure about the onstar and chimes though

I know that they make a harness for our cars to keep Chimes & OnStar, but I'm having a Hell of a time finding it. Also, it'* over $100 just for the harness. A waste of money if you ask me, OnStar isn't worth $100 to keep functional.

The steering wheel control issue can be fixed via an adapter that works like a universal remote. You wire it in to the steering wheel controls, and it sends signals via RF to the head unit making the controls work. These are usually $50 or so, also a waste if you ask me.

I love the OnStar. Hands free phone thru the radio without all the fluff to make it happen. Location help and lockout if stolen. 24/7 Auto and Emergency Help at your fingertips. I get a discount on my insurance through an OnStar mileage verification service. I've used the unlock car feature 3 times in 4 years. Had emergency services called to many accidents including a downed tree across 3/4'* of the road here. There are harness'* that do it all. One of the electrical gearheads should be around to chime in.

I can't remember the model number now it'* made by Scosche but it plays the chimes through a little box that you hide behind the radio then for steering wheel controls you need PAC SWI-X if your headunit has a remote for it then you can use this, if not then no steering wheel controls
