yes thats what seems to always happen lately...i'll know its about to slip when the speedo drops, and where would the vss be located?

The VSS is located on the passenger side of the trans case. You may need to splice in a new VSS connector as that seems to be the major problem with them. From what I have seen, most of the time the wire breaks a few inches from where it plugs in to the sensor. They are available at a GM dealer or a Delco supplier. But while you are right there, take the sensor out and see if there is excessive debris on the magnet. If so, you may have an internal problem.

I agree. I had the same issue on my Aurora. Changing the VSS sensor did nothing, but fixing the wires at the connector did the trick.
