When you are in motion and gaining speed the trans will shift through all of the gears?
If this is so than you have no issues with the PCM seeing the Vehicle Speed...
Now the PCM reporting the speed, or possibly the wiring between the PCM and Cluster/Hud might be a diffrent story
Now a question for the gearheads... Does the Hud and Speedo get its reading from the same wire?

if they both read 0 then the PCM is not sending the signal to the wire....since i have been behind the dash and dealt with the Speedo schematics when installing the HUD.....i can elaborate on this one, or at least give the diagrams....
the PCM sends the info to Connector C200 that is behind the dash....c200 is the MAJOR connector and makes everything function in the dash....
since the Speedo and the HUD share the same wire and then get spliced up in the Dash harness its self there is a problem...it sounds as the HUD is getting the proper power and as is the dash....im betting that there is a rubbed wire or a that wire is cut....
the nice thing would be to get back and test the wire going into the C200 connector and the wire that is on the dash side of the connector...altough this will be a problem because of the location of the connector....its in the middle of the dash and bolted to it....this means that its VERY tough to reach it
the wire that you are looking for is a DK Grn/ white wire that is coming from the cavity D7 in connector C3 of the PCM...this wire will go from the PCM and then end at C200 and then continue on to the cluster and the HUD as the same dk grn/ white wire
the PCM puts out the Vehicle Speed output as 4000 pulses per mile
