So I check with my friendly local Pontiac dealer (George White) here in Ames, and the parts guy won't give me the FCC ID number for the remote for my car , only the GM part number for a replacement remote (he says: "$117.00 plus they would have to program it for me") They are sooooo greedy! Well, to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe he didn't have the FCC ID? Anyway, all those ads on E-bay that say check to make sure this remote is right for your car at your local Pontiac dealer......well not in this town!
Oh yeah, the Service manager told me that the Pontiac shop manual has no electric wiring diagrams in it, that it is a separate publication. Is that true? I hope not, cause I just ordered the full 3 volume set for my 92 SSEi on line. And it is largely electrical stuff I am concerned with.

The books can be a little non-intuitive (e.g. Chapter 8 might be over in the second volume, so the first volume skips from Chapter 7 to Chapter 9 with no explanation) and reading them takes a little getting used to, but you'll end up knowing _way_ more about your car than the average mechanic does. Sometimes that'* depressing to think about... :?
