All I know is that it takes a GM mechanic about five minutes to do...and they'll charge, so it'* smart to at least attempt it. Another thing, if any procedures don't work, your keychain may be bad. I ordered one direct from GM and had it programmed only to have it not work, and just be a bad transmitter (meaning another week and yet another trip to the mechanics...but I won't rant
).

Cool, i can finally help somebody. I just did this for my 96 se and it went smoothly. Here'* what you gotta do:
1:insert keys in ignition and leave in the off position
2:locate DLC (data line connector) under driver side dash. use a fused wire to jump pins 4 and 8 (these are on the wider side of the connector)
3:turn ignition on (as fas as you can go without cranking the engine.) the vehicle will cycle the locks.
4:press and hold both lock and unlock buttons together on the first remote. Hold until the car cycles the locks then release buttons.
5:within 60 seconds repeat the previous step for the remaining remotes, even the one you already have.
6:remove the jumper wire and you should be all set.
