Need help making a toggle work
Trying to hook up the toggle, and eventually to the radar detector. Right now I am using a little neon light as a test dummy to see if I can get it working but no luck so far. I have the power wire going in with the windshield wiper fuse, then the ground i temporarily stuck to the front of the car with a bolt.
The toggle has three prongs in the bottom of it. Do I need to use all three? The yellow wire is for the power going into the fuse box, the black one is the ground, then the white looking one is for the neon light tester.
Yellow is on right, black in middle, and white on left
Then the ground

The only purpose of the ground terminal on the switch is for the light if it is an illuminated switch. The switch should still work properly without the ground, just no illumination.
What is this neon tester? A test light? That test light will need to be grounded as well.
12V in _____ switch _____ accessory out ________ test light _______ ground
A complete circuit.

Twister... just a thought... where the cigarette lighter cord plugs into the radar detector...
Does it say "+12v in" or something like that?
The reason I ask is I've seen some manufacturers (Bel Tronics I think) use a +9v input. Obviously you wouldn't want to hardwire the cord in the vehicle if the input was anything other than 12 volts.
I'm sorry to ask but sometimes basic questions go unasked and I'd hate to see your stuff go up in a puff of smoke.

Good question randman. I will check on that later. I give up for the night. I had the blue light on the toglle come on for a split second then it went away. I tried three fuses, radio, windshield wiper, and AC. Something so stupid like this and it is not working, really agrevates me.

Yea, it was lighted. The power was in the middle, and the ground was to the side. For the life of me I could not re-create it. Are the two prong switches a lot easier to deal with?

Ummm.... yeah. However, don't go out and get a new switch just yet. Check the package and make sure everything is hooked up right, make sure your power and ground are good. Re-do your connections at the switch, the wire should be twisted tightly right after you strip it, maybe you've just got a bad connection at the switch, happens to me all the time when I'm first testing things, But after I solder them It works perfectly everytime.
