multifunction switch issue?
One day I started my 92 SSE and the windshiled wipers would not turn off. I played with the switch and found a sweet spot between delay and off that would make them stop, but not fully park. I later realized that the wipers turned on when I turned left, and could not be shut off normaly with the switch, and the speed of the wipers cannot be changed. I drove it for a while by just finding that spot on the switch and manualy stoppong the wipers near the bottom of the windshield, but when it rains they just can't keep up. After I got I a near accident and messed up my abs and power steering, so the car sat for about a month. I recently got all the mechanical probs fixed, and test drove it and found that now the wipers aren't affected by the turn signals, but when I try to turn them on they stay at the same speed and cannot be turned off. Is this a prob. With that entire switch on the steering colum, or do you guys think its a wiring problem? My car has 120k on it, and I imagin the switch has never been messed with

Hmmm. It could be a short in the part of the multifunction switch that handles the wipers. My grandma had a similar problem with her 98 Bonneville. It would turn on at a fixed speed and wouldn't stop. For example: She would set it on low, turn it to off and it would still keep going. In her case it was the Wiper Control Module.

Yeah, that'* exactly what mine does now. If I turn it on at all it doesn't want to turn off. There is a spot on the switch between delay and off that will make it stop, but it is to hard to get the switch to stay there while driving. The delay settings don't change the speed of the wipers, the only thing that makes a difference is it speeds up on the "high" setting. I will look into replacing that part. I'm driving the car now on a daily basis and I really apreciate any help, I probably look stupid driving with my wipers on half the time.

Benind the stalk on the column is a small cover. Gently remove that and unplug the small connector. That should disconnect your stalk switches. I'd leave the cover off until you get a new stalk since you might need wipers at some point.

Where can I find my wiper control module? Is it just the black part with the large plug on the front of the wiper transmission right under the hood? I really need to get my electrical probs taken care of before it gets any colder out. Is there a good way to test the module itself?
