Jack, this should work on your car assuming you have the same setup and if it does Please let me know, that would be outstanding. The biggest differences the lay between a SE and a SSEi are more hardware related than electrical as I understand it. I hope it works for you. Now the only thing is to be able to run the foglights at night with out having to turn on the running / parking lights. That would be bonnielicious.

For that all you would need to do is look at the schematic and determine what engages when the lights are on for the fog lights. They are powered seperately. It'* probably a ground that is needed.

I will look into that, I know I have read another forum and they said something about grounding it out as well to run the foglights w/ highbeams. BTW, I saw some pictures of some of tghe stuff you have for Bonnies. I was wondering is you and a extra assembly with the maplights and fog light switch? Mine works but it does not backlight when the fog lights are on.

Grounding...I think pin 86 keeps the fogs on with the highbeams... That'* right along the same thoughts on the running w/only the fogs on that I was getting at.

Couldn't you just measure the resistance of the photo resistor with light and without and then wire up a multi position switch connected to a resistor of the same value of which the photo resistor sees during the day. So one position the cars lights would work normal and the other would bypass the photo resistor & the car would act like the sun is out even if it is not. So with the switch you wouldn't be stuck turning on your lights all the time.

I might look into that, Ed. I am not sure where I would put the switch for it or run the wires. I am not all that excited about getting under the dash / pulling it out.

For those of you who wanted pictures....
I tried this out last night. WORKS GREAT!! If you want full time control (I know some want it to be easier to go back and forth by means of a kill switch or the like) there'* no easier way to go! This looks like it will work for any car with a photocell. Way to go Cheetah!!!

After popping out the photocell


Wrapped a bit of aluminum foil around the base. Just removing the sensor still causes the lights to come on when dark by the way. I think there still needs to be a flow of electrictiy - not sure though.

Notice the lack of headlights with the ignition key turned (car isn't running, just electrical which would normally cause lights to come on)

That'* rain on the windshield if you're wondering -key still turned too.


Props again to Cheetah! Once the DRL'* are disabled, us 96-05'* can acheive total headlight control over that damn twilight sentinel

I personally like the auto headlights. There is no need these days to fumble in the dark for a headlight switch like 90% of other car owners do.

And I would like an override to be able to control it myself when I want to. (thinks ..hmmm where do I have a new switch I can use?)

Yeah it'* definitely not ideal, but i'm anal when it comes to control of the lights - as are a lot of others it seems. I'll sacrifice some convenience for gaining control. Just gotta remember to turn them off though. It'* not like a wire gets cut or anything is soldered into place. If it gets to be a pain, you just need to remove the little bit of foil. We'll see how it goes I guess.
