Compass Malfunctioning.
I have a '96 SSE and the compass is acting up on me. I have tried to calibrate it several times. most of the time, It calibrates properly but the further i get from where i calibrated it, the worse off it gets. then when i come back the compass is right. wierd eh? also, sometimes it will just go out on its own and say calibrate instead of being wrong. so I do the calibration and it just keeps going around. i drive in circles until i get dizzy but it wont calibrate. any suggestions???

Is it set for the correct geographic region? I assume it is, but still had to ask the question. The other thing that affects the compass is high energy magnetic fields such as high voltage transmission lines, possibly sub-stations. Have you installed any high powered sound systems or new speakers in the trunk area?

Subs and even replacement 6x9'* can mess with it. A few members have relocated it for that reason:

Am I correct in assuming that this sensor must be firmly mounted and facing the same direction as it was before I took it off.
