3 dashes on climate control after a few seconds
No new changes to the car. This issue started about 2 weeks ago.
At startup the Climate Control display is normal. After a few seconds the display goes to 3 dashes. It was erratically working for about a week, but seems to do this every time now. Following is background:
For years, the A/C tends to lose charge to a point and does not work when the temp is below 70 degrees outside, and I get the flashing temp display. Once I recharge it in the spring it works fine again until the temp drops below about 40 degrees. It was retrofitted to 134 years ago. I assume there is a weak seal somewhere.
I replaced the stereo about 4 years ago with a Kenwood. It was stolen about 2 years ago with minimal damage other than the plastic trim panel. I replaced it with a cheap nobody wants it Jensen stereo, which works great. Both times I have used Scosche wiring harnesses. Someone tried to steal the whole car (why?) about a year ago. The steering column had to be replaced then.
The fuses all test ok in the box under the steering column. I have yet to dig out the panel by the passenger side. I am thinking it is more a connection issue than a fuse, since the panel shows correctly for a few seconds.
Thanks in advance for any help that might be offered!

Don't know if it will help but, I had the three dashes symptom when I had a problem with my fuel pump. My fuel pump had a shorted wire inside the tank that caused the pump to work intermittingly. May be that there is a voltage surge when the wire arcs at the short. Could be that problem is coming from the wiring on your stereo or maybe a wire that got pinched when you repaired the steering column.
