Well, it'* a chicken and egg deal. When I started this, I didn't think the original powder coat was on there that good. All of the rims has some flakes where corrosion had popped a few pieces off.

Second, I wasn't sure how well the paint would adhere to the powder coat. I knew what it would do on bare aluminum, so that'* what I decided to do, make them bare aluminum, then paint/powder coat them a new color.

There'* not going to be another set of these done by me. Once around is enough So far I've got one done with a tire on it (Goodyear Viva II, 215/60R16), ready to mount on the car. second rim stripped and repainted ready for a tire. 3rd rim just started stripping off the gold.

Jim C: Next one I'll snap a photo of just the bare aluminum for you.

Jim C: Here Ya go, one bare cast aluminum crosslace. Pardon the green tape, I started masking it off before remembering you wanted a photo.

Nope, that'* rim #3. the 1st and 2nd have tires on them and are on the car. Looks a little goofy for the moment, with two 14" hubcaps on one axle and the alloys on the other. Be another week or so till the next pair are ready to go on the car.

The task just isn't getting any faster. Took 10 hours total to get the rim to this stage, with all the clear coat and gold removed. (My hands were killing me by the time I called it quits.)
