Repainting Factory Crosslace Alloys
Hi Y'all,
Got a set of crosslace alloys for my '90 Bonneville off ebay. As you can see from the photo, they are gold and a bit corroded. Polishing out the bead area and knocking off the loose paint and corrosion isn't a big problem for me, done plenty of motorcycle rims.
Repainting the centers from gold to something a little more in keeping with the car'* overall look (like maybe a gunmetal grey metalic or basic pearl white) raises an issue for me. Any recommendations on types of paint that are known to stick to the original paint?
I typically use Dupont Nason or PPG Deltron on motorcycle rims. Would like to avoid stripping the entire wheel if possible, but if nothing sticks to the original paint, that might be what I got to do....it'* just so freakin time consuming.

Im in the process right now redoing my originals the clear coat is peeling, started off with a 80 grit, then to a 120, then a 250, then 320, then use some metal polish then good old clear coat over top, ive done one so far have a few months before they have to go back on, make sure when your doing the edge around the gold laces that you dont sand any of the gold off, its worth it in the end after all the hours of sanding

Second question:
What else is available in terms of center caps? The "ABS" ones are a bit rough. Did Pontiac ever use something like it'* arrowhead logo or the "Pontiac" script on these? (If ya know the year or a GM Part Number, pass it along )

Also stopped off at John Hall Pontiac and the parts person scrounged through the parts to find new center caps. What he came up with were for the Vibe. Gloss Black with the arrowhead logo in the middle and the "Pontiac" script around the outside edge. They are the same size and attach the same way as the "ABS" caps that were on the rims.

They are pricey..$15 each. Took the two in stock and he ordered the other pair.

How much did Powder Kote Plus quote you on the refurbishing per wheel?
I could really use some reworked rims here? I have a lot of corrosion on the polished crosslaces and wouldn't mind having them freshened up a bit.

That is where I took my aluminum parts to be blasted. They quoted me I think 80.00/hr of blasting, cost me 110.00 total. They did my intake manifold, ICM bracket, thermostat housing, MAP bracket, and a few other small things. Came out really nice. Your wheels are in capable hands.

Are these the center caps you guys are talking about?
I dumped the ABS ones for the Pointiac Logo versions... I think they look better than the ABS lettered caps..
