Hell, guillotine clamps would have been a better choice IMO.
And as far as the welding is concerned....you didn't try hard enough, or you didn't try at all. A 20-spot to the welder guy at any shop would have bought you 4 spot welds...which is all you need.

I'm looking around at the various clamps, but none of them seem to squeeze the tips onto the pipes. They look like squeezers, but I doubt the tips would bend that much. Am I missing something?
The places around here charge a lot to weld, and it'* strange. There'* a street about 4 blocks from me that'* littered up and down with welding shops, and I think they're all price fixing. I'd have to spend $30 to $40 to get these on, and for that much I could just buy $40 tips and ghetto-affix them.

You're doing way too much work for something you could spend $5 total on (one bolt) and it would never fall off.
Not only that, but.. it really doesn't look good.

I found free metal wrapping sheets! I actually do have a $3.96 project on my hands! For this single bolt idea, would I need to have a threaded hole in the exhaust pipe? I can't reach the inside to hold a nut in place while I screw in the bolt from the outside. Also, the way it stands right now, no one should be able to see the crosshair design without actually looking at an awkward angle from the bottom. I'll see how it turns out, and if it doesn't rain tomorrow evening, I'll take a picture or two from the dual outlet angle to see if I can spot the crosshairs. The nuts and rods going through will be covered by some nasty looking metal wrap.

i had the same problem, one of my exhaust tips broke off and i hated how it looked. I just went to a parts store and got universal fit bolt on tips and had them install them for me....

wow...i would have just payed 20 bucks to have the tips welded on.
also why not use a self tapping screw and attach the tips more permanently seem like the easiest solution...
