6th set of tails.......time to play with a new idea.
I've done 5 sets already. 2 sets for my own cars, another 3 for/with other members. Picked up a set from billboost37 that he had laying on a shelf. Delam was pretty obvious on 2/4 of them, but good candidates for tinting, especially since the Zilla needs new clearcoat after over 4 years on the car.
There were a few blemishes that I had to wet-sand out with 1000-grit on all 4 pieces. After drying, I masked them up.
Here they are masked and ready for the first coat. But not a coat of tint. Translucent metallic green.......then tint. To give a mild metallic reflection in just the right light after tinting and clearing:
This is after the light dusting of metallic green, and the first coat of VHT tint with 2 different flash levels to show the effect:
The final effect will be much more subtle. There will be at least 2 more coats of tint and at least 2 or 3 coats of clear over all this, wet-sanding in between.
When this set is done, the Zilla'* will come off for a mild sanding, and re-clearing, then probably move over to the SLE.

Interesting idea
I like it but I am rather curious to see what it is like on the car.
Keep up the good work.

It'* not going to be very obvious. In direct sunlight, you'll see just a hint of a sparkle. It won't show at all with the lights on.
BTW, I just finished wet-sanding the next-to-the-last coat of tint. Final coat of tint is going on in a few minutes. I un-masked the reverse lights. They'll get only the final coat of tint, just a light coat. Then I'll clear them.

Oh that sounds better, I was concerned that it would be obivous, I think that "obivous" look is way too cheesy. However you said it won't be obivous, just a hint of sparkle in direct sunlight sounds awesome.
Won't the tinted tails versus amber fronts bother you or do I have an undiagnosed case of OCD?

Does the sanding help eliminate the foggy look of older plastic? Or do you just do that simply to help the paint stick better?
