Default Used car shopping and really like the Impala, but...

The time has come to buy a used car and I like more of a mid-sized vehicle with a decent trunk. The lines of the Chevy Impala really
speak to me but I am hearing lots of bad reports as to its transmission. From what I am able to glean, the Impala'* transmission was
redesigned in 2014 which, ostensibly would, be put into the models after that (2015 and after). But I am not sure my logic is
correct. So I am appealing to this learned community to tell me if there are any model years for the Impala that might be less of
a gamble than the years prior to 2014? Thank you.

The 6T7x has been a pretty good transaxle in all Impalas from 2012 until the end of production in 2020. They worked out the bugs in the 2007-2009 model year in the Lambda platform.

The same transaxle is also in many years of the Acadia/Traverse/Enclave/Outlook, and after the 2009 model year they have been holding up well.

Thank you Cathedral Cub for that comprehensive information. When I put the words "Impala" and "transmission" in a search
I get all sorts of Internet hits, many of which probably are from people who do not have intimate knowledge. I really appreciate your input.

Default Arghhh! I lost out on a real nice Impala

Well, CathedralCub, yesterday went not-so-good. I am a cash buyer without a trade and I told a dealer I wanted to buy a really nice
2015 Impala. He said he had a girl who expressed an interest in it but was having trouble getting financing and he'd let me know if it fell through.
That was a little insulting because I've many times been aced-out ofa purchases because I didn't have cash for whatever I was buying. Cash used to mean something. But yesterday afternoon he called and said she somehow got a loan. I'm trying to be philosophical about it but I still think that was pretty shabby treatment.

So I am continuing to look at Impalas but also a 2010 Buick Lucerne for $7000 came up. Is this a problematic car? It has 92K miles?

Sorry, but welcome to the jungle. If she set up financing through that dealer then they make some money for setting up the loan. Either way, this is the world of used car dealerships. There are so many lies told that when a truth is told it is hard to recognize.

If the drivetrain is in good shape then it can be a good car. One thing I've heard a lot of on those is electrical issues. As far as the price goes, I don't know what the market is like in your area.

Thanks a lot CathedralCub...you've really helped me out. This car shopping is so different than the last time I did it 19 years ago. Used cars
seem to have become gold and dealers have become magna-independent; so I have really appreciated input from someone who is knowledgeable and willing to help me.
