Rack and pinion unit fails on 2005 Malibu LS
Has anyone had problems with aftermarket /rebuilt steering gear in 05 Malibu?
I had to replace ithe rack and pinion unit at about 170000 miles by repair shop, not DIY. The replacement became unserviceable in one year of average road driving. That was replaced under warranty on the rebuilt part. The replacement has failed in the same way less than 6 months later, the unit became so loose internally that the car had about 6 inches of movement of the steering wheel before any direction change happened.
I realize that rebuilt parts can fail like new ones, and there is variability in the quality of parts, but these came from a local reliable supplier, and would not be expected to be all bad.
Just wondering if anyone has had similar problems, and can recommend a solution. The replacement is working great.

rebuilt parts always have a chance of being bad, people make mistakes, thats just nature. alot of people complain on here about the store brand rebuilt parts of all the national chains it seems. somethings you really cant get around, like racks, PS pumps, most vehicles CV axles. basically imo they are coming from the same rebuild shop and are re-branded at each store. so get it were you can find it cheapest is all i can say. i know tons of people who are factory workers that say they run stuff for all different brands and all they do is throw different labels in the machine at the end.
