you might want to check for a singed wire then might be as simple as the wire messed up.

here is a quick google search came up with a company that does custom tune for your car, just have to call them and have them delete the securityim sure you could find more if you got into it. oculd be someone local you could take it to.

hpt or efi live are very expensive you almost need to do it for people just to justify the cost. i was looking at hpt last time i think around 600.

HPTuner is $499 for the standard edition(the one I have). The one you were looking at had the EIO option for expanded sensor monitoring.(wideband O2) etc.

Thanks Dan, I made a rookie mistake, and did not check the Tech articles. :o

Comet, I had a guy that tunes for a living send me a used PCM flashed with my VIN for 100.00 plus shipping a few months back, I did not have VATS tuned out, but I imagine it would have only cost a little more to tune that out, they are in the US, but if you'd like I can ask them what pricing would be if you wanted to get a PCM from them, have it flashed with your VIN, then VATS tuned out.
They are not a big company, but they do know what they are doing, and they are trustworthy, so let me know if you'd like me to contact them, or give you their e-mail so you can contact them.

I am sure the price would be affordable, the shipping would cost a bit, but I still imagine it would be an affordable fix to your problem.

You can still consider the resistor bypass method, if your key is still good, but I'd just buy the GM VATS Bypass Module I put a link to on the first page of the thread, it will make sure the PCM sees that 5V 50Hz signal that it needs to see, which the BCM/TDM sends to the PCM, I suggest this because the resistor trick won't work if the BCM/TDM goes bad, and won't send the signal to the PCM, it will only fix things if there is a problem with the key pellet, or wiring from ignition switch to BCM/TDM.
Some PCM'* that need to see a non standard 30Hz signal, but most require the standard 50 Hz signal, there are no worries with that GM VATS Bypass Module For LS1 and LT1, as it produces both 50Hz, and 30Hz signals.

the tdm is integrated into the cluster and the cluster talks to the pcm via data link not like the others that have a separate tdm that you can use the 50/30hz signal to make the pcm think the tdm is happy. his car does not have that. the resistor only bypasses the wires and ign reader if the cluster is bad he will still have issues.

Ahhh, ok I misread the post saying it was in the cluster.
He should still be able to get VATS tuned out at least, I heard back from the guy I know, and he said he can do it no problem, only thing is he is in the US.
I have his e-mail if they'd like to contact him, he won't do you wrong.

oh ok well where you get a htp tuner and that would help for sure?
i did look up
the Mongoose
Drew Technologies : Introduction

also found a GM Tech 2 you can buy like for 400 bucks or so from china lol

but does the GM Tech 2 tool work? for what i need

also gM got back to me one another one
they say 475 up to for the cluster 188 to install it, 94 bucks and hour to diagnos it they need 2 hours, and 98 bucks or something to program the cluster

and i guess these guys that program cant just send me a programed cluster or the module inside the cluster? then i just put it in and it works ?

the pcm(engine control computer) is under the hood. it talks to your cluster like a computer talks to another computer or the internet or printer whatever. the hardware inside your cluster had the security stuff inside but it has to talk to the pcm to tell it go or no go for security. if it says no go the pcm shuts down your injectors. so if you want to disable completely the system you have to program the pcm to not care about whether the cluster is happy or not and just run anyway. so thats what you can do with hpt or having someone tune your pcm to not care about the cluster
