well, today i tried starting the car. tps seems good, maf hangs around 26.0. black smoke out the tailpipe upon starting and terrible gas smell out the tailpipe while running.
there were 2 things i noticed that concerned me. one, is the first few times it wouldnt start id take the key out and the fans would START. the other is there is a 2 pin weather pak connector near the alternator just hanging there. it comes out of the same loom as the injectors and has 2 pink wires. i couldnt find the same one on my car.

Does the exhaust smell like rotten eggs or sulfur?
And take a picture of that connector please.

ill check it against my car here in a bit. here are some pics of the connector. it has about 8" or so of wire, and is bent right out of the loom to come up to where its laying on the valve cover. all the injectors seem to have good o-rings, no gas smell up front. as for the smell itself, it just smells like raw fuel. and when its trying to start there is visible black smoke out of the tailpipe.

well, i cleaned the maf, whos little wire things looked like marshmallows. i cleaned them with alcohol, and got it down to 5.6, but its real erratic. to the point where if i plug in the maf sensor while the car is running it floods itself out and dies.
i was concerned about the fact there was some oily water near the tailpipe, but considering the amount of oil that was on the manifold, im guessing it was just oil that had seeped in the exhaust after sitting for a week. i think im going to pull the maf off my fathers dormant park ave and see if it fixes laurens car and report back here.
id still love to know what that connector is for though.
