2.4 Ecotec Problems?
Hi guys, I have the 2.4 Ecotec, so far so good. I have a question of what are the long term reliability of this engine. Since I've read about some problems about the timing chain. So, I wonder how frequent these problems are on these engines?

You will find out. Not all ecotecs or their drivers are the same.

Yeah, they vary widely, and the reliability varies widely. My advice: Keep tabs on the fluids, change oil more often than the computer tells you to (like every 3,000-4,000 miles), don't beat the heck out of it all the time, be nice to it while it is warming up, and you have fair odds of it lasting a while. Also, find out the fluid change and parts replacement intervals in your owners manual and stay well ahead of them, especially the transmission. We've seen 2.4 Ecotecs have major issues within 100,000 miles, and have seen them not start having issues until over 200,000 miles. There'* one that showed up here recently that is just about to hit 300,000 miles that has some kind of probably-electrical issue cropping up.
The 2.4 outwardly seems a little more delicate to me than the 3.6 by the raw numbers of how many are out there versus how many I see with major issues, but I keep in mind that also the 2.4 is often in more value-oriented applications which often see reduced care and increased stress all their lives.
How many miles on yours?
How many miles have you owned it?
