Battery problems most likely. Put a charger on it.

I tried a jump start with the battery from Chevy malibu then from a truck (Silverado I think) and it didn't work. If it was battery problem, would it not have started with jump?

Not necessarily. Are you making sure the cables are good and allow it to tun hooked up for at least 5 minutes before starting.

I did have the jump cables hooked up for a few minutes before starting. Also, my lights seem OK and window goes up and down and dash lights up.

Thanks.

I agree it is likely the battery. Especially when the battery and engine have cold-soaked for so long. If you haven't replaced the battery with a new one within the last three years, based on your symptoms, odds are good it needs a new one.

I hooked it up directly to the new battery on my Chevy Malibu and took the verano battery out of the equation and still it didn't start. Is battery still the suspect part?
If so..I don't understand why that would be.

A couple months ago I put in a new refurb starter because my starter was making all kinds of strange noises. I also replaced my alternator over the past year.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a similar problem immediately after the cold weather arrived. I had a very weak start with the engine barely turning and multiple cranks. Second time this happened, I went straight to the local autoparts store. Figured it would be the battery (which had been replaced under warantee last winter, too soon after purchase). So autoparts store tests my battery, all OK, but gives me a fresh one because I don't believe it. Car starts right up with fresh battery. I turn it off to double check and it is back to -- a click and a momentary whirr. After verifying grounds and cables and battery... CLICK.

My understanding, based on recent experience, is that this type of failure, where their is still a click at the solenoid (relay and solenoid are working) but no crank, is usually a battery related issue. In my case, a newly manufactured starter fixed the problem.

Hi ,
Thanks for your reply. I just don't understand why people are leaning towards battery replacement. Shouldn't the jump start from another car work as it is largely using the battery from the other car? Or should it not have started when I bypassed the verano battery and used the new battery from my chev Malibu? I hate to replace the battery if it is not the problem as it is $275. Is the Malibu battery much smaller in power?

NO
Put a good battery in it. A bad battery can suck the life out of everything including a jump.
