Service Engine Soon and Traction Control. 2000 Regal LS
Hello all,
I have a 2000 Regal LS with a 3800 series 2 engine.
Recently I had my Service Engine Soon light come on as well as my Traction Control light come on. I tried turning my Traction Control light off but was unable too do so.
If anyone could explain to me what is happening i would greatly appreciate it.
If it makes any easier to figure out, I have one code P0442 and I put on new winter tire (good ol snow)
Thanks a bunch,
Graham

a PO442 is Evaporative System Malfunction, Small Leak.As for the abs light it could be multiple things.Do you know anybody with a scanner that reads ABS codes?

most common causes of the 442 are gas cap, or vent valve.
Ive heard some people say autozone or advance can use the abs scanners someplaces.

gas cap would have been loose or the gasket starting to crack. vent valve is a little harder to check, you have to take it out, disassemble the filter and clean with air. then actuate it with some scrap wires and a battery, you should be able to blow through it then not and the solenoid in there should go back and forth smooth. shoot some wd40 in it actuate it a few times and put it back. if it doesnt move good you need a new one. the one on my old 03 monte which i think would be similar location was tucked up in the fender behind the wheel.

SES light with traction control light can come from several different sources, and the direction to get a scan is good advice. The most common issue is a bad wheel speed sensor, but it can also be a steering wheel position sensor, a yaw sensor, a bad electronic brake control module or a bad brake actuator module. A scan with a code reader that will read ABS codes should help you to focus in on the culprit. Most transmission shops have this type of scanner.
