DIC Swap
Hey all,
I own a 2002 Park Avenue with the base model interior. My car does not have the DIC and instead has a blank panel where the buttons would be. How hard would it be to swap in the DIC components from a junkyard car? Would it plug into the existing instrument cluster?

I really don't know what the base model (deletes) overall consists of.
If you have the digital odometer, I would want to ask the dealer and see what they say.
The DIC was an option, I would like to think you should be able to install one.

Hi.
If I may chime in....
I am currently in the process of doing this upgrade for my 02 Lesabre. I posted a book and a half on here (although, I'm still catching up from not being on here in about 5 months...)
This is what I've gathered so far, and I hope this helps.
You need to run some extra wires. My suggestion would be to get the entire ware harness UN CUT from a donor car. The harnesses unclip, from the minor and major harnesses. From a non DIC to a DIC, you probably want the cluster with the tach. There are 8 pins total that go to the DIC panel. Those are included in the wire harness that goes from the DIC panel, also has the temp sensor for the drivers side vent, I believe it also plugs into the diming switch by where the headlight switch is, and then 2 plugs will plug into the cluster. Your original harness wont work. Best thing is, that GM used these applications on a number of cars in this era. Simply replace the wire harness with the one that you want the feature type thing.
I believe that there is a wire that goes from the BCM to the cluster. For me, it'* a white wire, pin 8, and get'* plugged into (A6??) in the cluster. Boom, now I have a tach.
There are some other wires as well, like the windshield washer fluid wire (my case it'* a blue and pink wire), and another wire that isn't coming to me. The major thing here is the mileage. I kept being told that I need to take it to a dealership. That'* probably the best way, but if they are anything like the ones here, they will turn their noses up at you while charging you your first and second born. Easy solution. Look online and see who you can send your cluster to. I know that they will take this tiny chip off a daughterboard, stick it in a chip reader, and alter some things on it, then solder it back on the board. I tried doing this and drove myself nuts. I ended up sending my cluster to a guy in Littleton Colorado. For $70, he'* replacing all of the bulbs that are burned out, replace all of the motors that make the tach, speedo, fuel, and temp gauges work, and also reset the mileage for me. headaches avoided and problem solved.
I just purchased the domain Oldmanmotors.tech and will be posting all of this up on the site.
It'* not impossible to upgrade, you just have to know how to do it, and what to look for.
