I assume the IMS shaft runs in a bushing? It'* surprisingly difficult to find good diagrams. I wonder if there is a way to pull the bushing out and see if it frees the shaft.

The shift shaft should not have any lateral movement.

And it doesn't, at least nothing I can feel. No slop in it whatsoever.

That leaves the shift shaft and manual valve. The indent may be off on one end but I would think you wouldn't be able to shift by hand at all.

I'm pretty sure there was some TSB on this for 2000, but finding details or anyone else with this kind of problem has proven difficult. I also think the TSB was related to the lever mechanism in the steering column and the cable itself.

Has anyone run into this before or have any ideas? The car runs and drives smoothly and effortlessly once it'* in gear, and although I'm not exactly short of upper body strength, this is obviously not how it'* supposed to operate.

You can get TSB'* and factory service lit from AllData DIY although it lacks much on transmissions.

www.atsg.us has all the trans books you will ever need. Even in PDF downloadable format. I purchased my 4T60-E manual from them years ago.

Just for */G check the plastic around the shift lever to see if anything is binding there.
I broke a plastic piece off by forcing it into park one day. Shifts great now LOL.
