2008 Buick Enclave OEM remote start issues
Recently bought a used 08 enclave and the remote start didn't work. When playing with the key fob yesterday it worked once. Haven't done anything different. Haven't even drove the car and it doesnt work again. I've done all the basic trouble shooting steps. Like verify its on from the program menu, checked to be sure all doors, hood and trunk are closed. I have no CEL light check for fuses for this feature and do not see any. I have found a manual online but do not see anything in it about remote start.
What I am looking for is someone with technical knowledge to answer some questions. Is there a remote start module or is it combined with another one of the modules in the car. Basically I am trying to find out when I press the lock button and then hold the start button what receives that signal to start the car? Where can I find the module and what electrical test can I preform. Also is there any after market diagnostic tolls that are easy on the pockets that can preform these test.

the tires use the same module, if they work and the lock/unlock works its likely something with the start button on the fob. some people have had success taking it apart and cleaning it. alcohol and a qtip, just dont go crazy and short stuff out and let it dry completely before putting the battery back

Well, you can go to any GM parts counter and they have a tool that will tell you if all the buttons on the fob are working....
The only problems I have seen, involved the underhood latch switch.....it will set a PCM code if it thinks the latch is open when the hood is closed, and you try to start the car remotely......since this is not an emission problem, not sure if this will turn the CE light on....wouldn't hurt to scan for codes....
I assume when you are outside the vehicle, the lights flash when you hit the lock button, release it, and then hit the remote start button?

I just put my code reader on it and there was no codes. I thought I would try to remote start it while sitting in the car to listen and when I did the remote start procedure I heard a high pitched tone coming from under the dash area when I pressed and held the start button. Could this be a clue to anything?

Are you pressing the door lock button first?
Is there a problem with the contact switch that indicates the hood is closed?
Has remote start been programmed to off in the DIC?

Just something to remember is after 2 consecutive remote cycles, the remote start feature will be disabled until the next ignition key cycle to run.
The Remote Vehicle Start system will not operate if any of the following conditions are present:
•A current vehicle DTC that illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
•The vehicle is in valet mode.
•More than 2 remote starts have been attempted.
•The hazard switch is in the ON position.
•A current hazard switch DTC is set.
•The vehicle hood is ajar.
•A current hood ajar DTC is set.
•The CTD system detects an alarm trigger.
•Excessive engine RPM
•Excessive coolant temperature
•Accelerator pedal position greater than 0 percent
•Vehicle not in park
•Vehicle theft deterrent malfunction
•A current automatic transmission shift lock control system DRC is set.
•A vehicle speed sensor signal is detected by the ECM.

Forgot to add is are there any aftermarket accessories installed on the vehicle? Have seen improperly installed accessories such as a dvd player will cause issues with certain vehicle features.
