You would need to remove teh diff cover and inspect it. Look for any damage, such as chips in the teeth, roll pin not where it should be, damage to the inside of the diff cover. Removing the bottom pan will also tell you a lot. Any chunks is likely from the diff.

just for comparisons sake, i like my house set at 68 to 70 and 72 to 74 seems about right for the car
