so lets say hypothetically a driver got bored after being cooped up in the house all day because of winter weather...so they went for a drive and their car, lets call it an Intrigue, ended up in the ditch...

Where can you safely attach a tow chain on a w-body? Not sure what the best angle of approach is either, so front and rear points would be helpful, pics especially.

and in case youre wondering, im pretty sure the car is fine, it was pretty much the slowest accident ever, just kinda slowly drifted off into the ditch about 15-20 mph. Stupid ice.

Actually stupid driver, completely my fault, going too fast for the conditions. Hadnt had any trouble up to that point so I was gettin cocky.

i know on my buddies first gen lumina there were holes in the bottom of his front subframe that we attached tow chains to and they worked fine. if there arent any on ur gen just attach them to the subframe. probably the same for the rear, somewhere on the rear suspension.

How is this a mechanical problem now? Sometimes I wonder why I even bother...


But anyway I was thinking along the same lines, from the front finding somewhere on the subframe that wont rip the front bumper off.

The rear is another story, because theres not really anything suspension wise to attach too.


But I was told this morning that its being towed anyway, so I guess I wont have to worry about it. I guess Ill just help my parents out with the bill.

The best tow points should be in the owner'* manual. Just don't do what some do and attach it to ther bumper support.

How about one of the control arms in the back? I'd be pretty gentle though...

Yeah it was professionally towed, apparently my grandpa had intentions of trying to pull it out with the tractor when he got home thursday, but failed to tell my parents about that, so they paid to have it towed. They also quickly started throwing the tow bill in my face, so I quickly wrote out a check to them for the full amount. Small price to pay to not have to put up with that crap.

Dont really have any that I know of. The back suspension has nothing that is solid enough to support the car being towed.

You never want to tow from any suspension components if possible. The force of pulling the entire car by one part of the suspension typically causes a bent something or torn something and ends up costing more in the end.
