I purchased mine with 7500 miles, and it now has 14k miles. I have not added a drop of oil during that time, and the oil is still about 1/3 of the way from the add mark. That'* pretty solid for a performance engine that is set up loose.

I love this car, and I have gotten several compliments on it even from people who are not into cars at all. Because not too many were sold, this car is unique out on the road, and I've always liked to own something a little different.

Heh, yeah. The invoice reads that they replaced the entire lamp assembly, exterior fog light left, p/n 25762946. I guess that'* one way to fix it, but I got a sinking feeling that I'll be seeing them again...I'm hearing too much about bum wiring harnesses to believe that it'* "just" the lamp assembly.

Default problems too

Fairly new to the BC but wanted to post my problem issues too...
Have an 05 GXP that I bought brand new.....here is my list

1-Paint overspray on the car from painting the dealership sign- they got it all off using OVEN CLEANER! I had looked at the car for months and finally bought it when they did the employee pricing. Raining like hell the day I bought it and didnt notice the overspray until the following week when the weather was better and I washed it. Now the overall finish just isnt what it was.
2-Intermediate shaft problems at about 6k miles and went in for the "lube and adjustment fix"... its at 16k and started again but WORSE than ever! - dealership says there is a permanent fix on the way????
3-Monsoon system is nothing but a washed up piece of crap! Upgraded all 6 speakers and even added an infinity basslink II powered sub and it still sounds worse than my factory Bose system in my 2000 GTP Grand Prix!
4-SH**Y brakes and all that darn brake dust!
5-Rusty wheel hubs.
6-Leather on passenger seat cracking and that seat almost never gets sat in!
7-Flooded trunk when new... went to dealership 3-4 times before they found that there was a rubber grommet missing where the spoiler bolts to the trunk lid.
8-One time it would not crank.. acted like it was flodding out or not getting gas at all. After a few minutes ut started and no repeat on that one YET...
9-Can't get anywhere near the advertised MPG regardless of speed or driving conditions.
10-Thankfully I am short (5'8") because the front seats do not go back far enough for a normal sized person!

I traded a 9 month old 2004 BMW 325i AND an old Lincoln Town Car for this car. I love the appearance inside and out and have added 40 series flowmasters and 20% tint that makes it look hot as H**L... but like alot of you guys I am very dissapointed in the performance and reliability of such a premium car!

If anyone hears of a reliable HP upgrade..(without voiding the factory warranty and costing 10k) please let me know.

Thanks!

The brake dust can be addressed by switching to ceramic pads (I got mine at autozone). I just changed the fronts since there was not a problem with the backs. Virtually no dust now. The rusted hubs can be fixed by painting with barbeque grill paint from Home Depot for $10. I did not prep the rust, just painted over it and it'* still fine after a few months. I read about both of those fixes on this site.

Hmm, I'm 6'2" and don't have the seat all the way back. But I gotta agree that the Monsoon is not very impressive.

Hey Alan!,... And welcome to the Club. I am probably one of the more vocal antagonists of the GXP here and like You totally dissatisfied with the overall quality of this $40,000 edition of thhe Bonneville. Mine stickered at pennies below that. That said I still wouldnt rid myself of it. It styling and N* engine endear it to me. And with my mods I cant take a trip to the store without alot of attention and chit chat about it. A couple responses of your listed items

Item 1, The paint definitly isnt consistent. Several members have overspray, and lean areas. Waxing and buffing the Car helps tremendously. I am a purist and use High End Carnuba and the buffing that goes along with it helps the finish. Alot of members here have had great sucess with Liquid Glass and Zaino as well.

Item 2, I hope they get around to a re-engineered IM shaft before my extended warranty runs out. At 6000 miles mine is making a tiny noise and got to get it in before it gets worse. The lube quiets it but it'* a BS fix. The shaft has worn and greasing it just quiets the wear so of course the noise is going to get worse as the reapplied grease drys/runs out and more wear happens. Greasing wear isnt fixing and continued wear is putting your life in danger.

Item3, Yep... The Monsoon Streo System SUCKS. I put an Alpine Subamp and put a 10 kicker Subwoofer right in the rear deck between the spekers. It allows me to turn down the Monsoon so the bad quality is livable.Alpine makes nice subamps that allow you to tap off the back speaker wires.I am currently looking into another amp fto power the back two speakers which I am going to upgrade. I want the amp to have the same "tap" feature of the one I have. Being as the Monsoon is the control center for the DIC and Onstar and Phone, and tied to the PCM, I dont want to play around with it directly.

Item 4&5, Brake Dust Sucks, As mentioned ceramic pads get Club proven results and I as well went the BBQ paint route and love it. The flat finish is great and doesnt attract attention and holds up great. Mine has been on 7 months and still looks good. I went ape and painted everything that wasnt black under all 4 wheel wells.

Item 6, My seats are still fine (fingers crossed), Leather varies lot to lot and some other members have had leather problems and had them fixed under warraunty.....get 'er done.

Item 8, Redo your ground strap connection. It is a substandard ground and a TSB exists for the area around the ground strap lug rotting already. I cut the old lug and replace with a larger one. Sand some paint off around where the lug bolts to the body as well. This may or may not help your circumstance. There have been alot of queer elictrical problems with this car and I think this chinsy ground lug bolted dirctly to the painted floor pan may have alot to do with it. And can only be compounded when you start putting add-ons on to a system so closely engineered for stock.

Item 9, The advertised MPG is an out and out lie. I get between 10.5 when I am in a frisky mood in town doing light to lights with Nitrous,.... and 16.5 on the highway where my foot is at a consistent 75-80 MPH

Item 10, At 6'4 the seats suck. I have the seat quite reclined to make driving bearable and my knee not against the dash. And after examining the seat frame/floor pan situation frustrated that it cant be changed.

Again Welcome and hope You get the car at least to your liking. Performance mods are but not available. I use Nitrous. Expensive to put in and run. You will see better performance with a K&N drop in filter and the engine is high compression benefits from using Premium gas. The advanced ignition electronics and knock sensors allow for regular gas but Premium will Definately boost your performance and gas mileage. When you run regular, the PCM is pulling timing back to accomadate and You are getting much less performance, far worse gas mileage, and I would asume engine wear. My thinking is for the PCM to respond to knock and pull timing because of it, then knock is already there regardless if it is effective enough for you not to hear it. I have used regular in the beginning and heard definate predetonation when the engine is cold. An aftermarket MAF and Electronic PCM piggyback controller are available but at $300+ each, I dont believe the minimal power added is worth it unless you are nitrousing or */C~Turboing the engine. The PCM is locked and unflashable and makes so many common mods not just do-able.

Took my momts 05 in on tuesday to have the secod foglight fixed and the intermediate shaft again. Car has just over 11k miles. The dealer fixed the light, but they said they have to order a new shaft and put it in next week.

Well i guess after a few months of ownership i decided to read this post hahahaha....

i think the paint issue is on all of the GXP'* since mine has be repainted once already (by GM) and if i were the original owner i wouldnt have picked it up maybe thats why the first owner traded it in ISS is starting to make some noise and will be replaced not lubed!

car is going in beginning of APRIL for the paint work it should have had GM reps are comming in to look at it but i have already been told total cost of work will cost me $500.00 GM should be picking up the other 4000.00 why well you can walk around the car and tell where its been painted the neglected to remove and moldings from the car just tapped and sprayed

fog lights are out but no big deal i have the harness here and that will be swapped out when i replace the front bumper cover..

brakes have been replaced once by GM they replaced them again with cheap pads Ceramics are here and awaiting install bill will be going directly to gm since there is only 14,000 documented KMS on the car since they did the work...

all in all if i was the original owner i too might have traded the car in for something else not because of the car but because of where he went for service.

i have only had one compass burp recall'ed by it self (strange)
and Onstar has been removed well disconnected if anyone wants to do this pm me and i'll explain.

Coming home from getting a haircut last night , I noticed........DAM! My driver side fog lamp has blown . :? I quess I'm just gonna have to stop leaving the button on full time. I hate to take the car in as much as they hate to see me pull up. Maybe it'* time to do it myself and use silicone. I'm not sure if it'* a moisture or heat problem or a combination of the two.
