rear air shocks
getting a clunking sound from the passenger rear shock on my 05 gxp. I do not hear the compressor when I start the car. from a diagnostic point of view what do I check first?2nd?3rd? having never worked on rear air before I need a starting point. thanks

reae air shocks
I cant hear anything with a vigorous bouncing. only going down the road can I hear the clunk. not on every bump though. I can notice a very slight difference in height from the drivers side to the passenger side. my gxp seems to have a stiffer suspension than the other two bonnies I have driven. I think that'* why I cant hear anything on the bounce test.

the compressor is bad.... but this shouldnt affect the ride or clunk. the compressor only levels the rear end when weight is put back there. i would start by checking the tie rods for play. if that isnt the case, then i would move onto shock mounts.. then traction bars and if you cant find anything there, then it is either the wheel bearing (not very likely to clunk) or the strut is damaged internally.

if your strut looks like this its bad, mine was leaking and that takes out the compressor, i got regular shocks and a airline kit that gives you a fill valve, under 20 bucks let me know if you want the part number

finally got under the gxp today. checked the sway bars. moved on to the shock mounts and there it was. upper mount bad. will shock have to be replaced? repair procedure greatly appreciated for the upper mount. big thanks to eltatertoto and all who posted!

you have to remove the shock to replace the mount because there is a big nut like a strut on top that you are unlikely to be able to remove without a impact wrench

kyb shocks
received the new shocks from rockauto. not sure if they are what I wanted or can use. hoping to hook up shocks without using compressor because it is not working. info from KYB says they contain pump, sensor, regulator and reservoir in the sealed unit. can someone check these out and tell me if they will work without being hooked up to the compressor?More Information for KYB SR1002 this is the link. thanks!

thats not right, its just going to be the oem type shock set. monroe ak29 to replace the air lines with ones that go to a air fill valve. then you dont need the compressor or anything else. just the new oem shocks
