P0418, P0410 Any Ideas?
Alright, I'm about ready to start pulling my hair out by the fistful over this issue. The other morning my wife took the GXP and ran an errand, then about an hour later I jumped in the car and noticed the SES light glaring at me from the dash. I recently activated OnStar for a three month trial, so as I was driving I had the advisor run a diagnostic on the car. The two codes that were present were P0410 (secondary air injection malfunction) and P0418 (secondary air injection pump relay circuit).
I've reset the codes a number of times and after the second start cycle the light comes right back. On the basis of the P0418 I went to the parts store and got a new relay, to no avail, the damned light still blazes away. I've checked all other fuses and relays for the AIR system, if it wasn't for the light I wouldn't even care if it wasn't working since the pump only runs on cold mornings for less than a minute.
Any thoughts, please someone save my sanity!

both codes are pump related.
i have P0410 at the moment, its going into GM in few days.
If the relay was replaced and didnt do you any good, i'll put my money on the pump
i lost 2 of them in one year, and expecting another soon
they are known to go bad in cold climates. water goes in and freezes causing the pump to fail.
if you take it to GM, prepare an arm and a leg
unless you wanna do it yourself the pump is around 120 on ebay, not sure how hard it is to replace
EDIT: i didnt play with mine since its covered under warrranty, but there might be a fuse under the hood too, i would check them before going any further

Sam, that'* a pretty sad design on GM'* end to have you go through so many pumps in such a short span. Although it'* not the dumbest thing they've done. I'm going to pull the pump this weekend and see if it'* fried, I'm beginning to suspect you're correct.

yeah they go on many cars, not the GXP only.
from reading online they tend to fail in cold weather, water/condensation gets inside of it and freezes the valve cause the fuse to pop or the pump to fail
mine both failed in jan. and thats when the weather was -35 C*

Another thought, I just subscribed to AllData for a year, in the recall section is a PCM issue with the AIR system. Does anyone here know anything about it and did you have any problems with the recall? I'm guessing I need to call a dealership Monday morning and see if my car was effected. I'm still probably thinking the pump is toast, but I like the idea of GM footing the bill for my repair.

That'* weird, when I took my car in few days ago to repair the AIR system, the dealership told me its a PCM issue and not a pump issue, I'm like wtf? So they said we had to reprogram the PCM and that fixed the problem (I think they just cleared the code and used the word "reprogrammed" to tell me they did some work thinking I'm stupid), anyways they did what they did, I picked up my car and less then 24 hours later and not even 20 km on the the car, bang!!! SES is back on, I scan and yep... Same code again.... I told them I'm sure its the pump, but they're still trying to convince me its the PCM....
So car is going back in on the 8th, we'll see what they have to say about it this time
Also you keep me in touch with the recall issue

Took the car to the dealer today and they found the issue, a disconnected wire from the relay to the pump. So far no SES. Next mission, fix the dead spot in my steering, intermediate shaft lubrication here I come.

Sam,
They didn't elaborate much on the recall even after I asked about it. I was kind of put off the the service writer, who was pretty patronizing. I guess they are used to coming in with vague problems such as 'the thing under the hood is making noise'. Next time I'm probably going to choose one of the other GM dealerships in town for my service issues.
But yes I agree I'm glad it was an easy fix, although now I'm mad I didn't do more investigative work under the hood before I jumped to the conclusion that the pump was bad and would go in under warranty. I could have saved $100 deductible. Oh well, you live, you learn.
