I ended up replacing the starter shortly after I posted and have not experienced the problem since the replacment, so I have to assume that it was either the starter itself or a connection that got "cleaned" by the dissassembly/reassembly of the replacement process.

I had the same problem with my 2001 Cadillac Seville SLS. Intermittent no start. It turned out to be the KEY. See if it will start when you wiggle the key in the ign. switch. If so, that may be your problem. Worked for me!
