Well I went to look at & test drive this '05 GXP today, which I can sum up in two words... confirmation & surprise. It confirmed my opinion that this would be a nice Bonnie on steroids, and that I would like it. But I was totally surprised by what great condition it is in! 5 year old car with 65k+ miles on it and it looks & runs like brand new.

The interior was flawless, nothing loose, spotted, scratched, or stained. Exterior had one 8" mark that can be rubbed out... but no dents, dings, putty or misaligned panels. Based on some forum posts here, I checked the spare well in the trunk... no mold, rust or water. Test drove it up the street and down the freeway... engine was powerful, smooth and throaty. Engine compartment was clean, well maintained, no cracked anything and no odors.

They are asking $10,995 for it, and holding firm at that price... I believe the car is being brokered; the car was previously listed for higher and they have dropped the price a few times (SoCal is a soft market for Pontiacs, V8s, and any car under 30mpg). Car is GM certified... comes with a 1 year warranty and 1 year of OnStar.

About a $1000 more than I wanted to pay max to walkout with a car. I'm considering asking that if they will include tax, license & fees in the $10, 995... and we would have a deal.

Any ideas, suggestions or thoughts?

$10,995 is an awesome deal for a bonnie GXP with only 65k on her nost with that mileage that i have seen are going for $13,000- $18,000 when i try to find them on autotrader also in mint condition. good luck with the deal and I hope you have her in your driveway soon

Sounds like a good deal. And remember that the detraction'* you read here, are the sum of not only our own experiences, but are what we have heard from alot of Bonneville owners through the year. No one brand is perfect. Most of the issues I have seen with the GXP I believe are issues related to assembly. With 65k miles on that one and things going great is a good indicator it will stay that way. We have one member who bought his early in '04 "blacksedan" is nearing 150,000 basically trouble free miles. It was a well designed, well thought out car, brought to production after years of planning and a "concept debut" years before production.

the bonneville gxp was also the first car that gm perforance division got to do and also the first gm car other then a caddy to recieve the northstar 4.6, i to enjoy my 05 gxp with 31000 miles that is why i bought another vehical to drive especaily during our long minnesota winter months

My temp gauge fell, so the entire gauge cluster needed to be replaced by the dealer. I'm the only one with this problem so far.

agree....turned rotors once then replaced at 100k; 4 sets of pads in 140,000 miles

The trunk leaks water somewhere. I fixed that by drilling a hole in the rubber plugs at the bottom of the spare tire well.
My leak was the sunroof drains.....blew them out with air compressor. also drilled holes to let water drain

Fog light harness on the GXP is garbage and burns out fog lights every month. I installed HID'* and haven't had a problem since (about a year now).
I can replace a bulb in 10 mintues


Steering rack creaking issues (common with all Bonnevilles).
I have this.....and had a leaking rack but the sealer seems to have worked so far.

Oil cooler lines leak oil onto the exhaust manifold, blowing burning oil smell into the cabin from time to time. This happened to me while I lived in Chicago about once every other week, and didn't happen at all for the whole 9 months I lived in California. I'm waiting for it to happen again. $26 per line at gmpartsdirect, but still an annoyance. Very common problem.
I have this one too


Despite all this, it'* a great car.... never left me stranded in 5 1/2 years. I'd buy it again.

I just joined the site and please allow me to share my experience with my 2005 GXP.

To start with I work for General Motors and I may be biased, but my GXP is the best car I have ever owned. I currently have 145,000 miles on it and I have not had to replace 1 single thing.

I run Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic oil and I go strictly according to the oil life monitor on the car and I routinely put on 8-9000 miles per oil change and I never have to add a drop of oil to the engine.

The power the car has is addicting, there'* nothing like it when you go to pass someone and open it up. Gets my heart pounding.

I recently had the displeasure of hitting a deer and it wiped out the RH side of my car and I told the adjuster "You are not totaling this car!" He told me how beautiful the car was and agreed to fix it.

My car is black and I just had 2010 Camaro silver hood stripes put on the car because in March 2010 my son turns 16 and this is going to be his first car and he can't wait. He loves it more than I do I think, lol.
