2005 GXP Clicks, but no crank...
My car has been great. Only one problem with the A/C was fixed by the great answers on this forum. Thanks!!!
My current problem started after the car was not started for about a month. When the key is turned to the on position, all appears normal, in that the DIC and all other functions appear to work, (lights, locks, radio, windows, etc.), when the key is turned to the start position there is a rather loud click under the hood. The click happens at about 2 times a second. The starter does not turn the motor over, regardless of how long the key is in the start position (I have tried for approx. 15 seconds).
I have checked the battery voltage, it is at 13.7 at rest, 13.4 during attempts to start. All connections are tight and corrosion free. I have checked all IGN fuses in the fuse block.
The security light flashes until the attempt to start, then returns after the attempt along with the rest of the system lights as the dash reboots. After a few seconds the system lights go to normal status, except Service Engine Soon light, which remains on.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

I'm pretty sure as soon as you disconnect the battery your settings are gone. They do have little temp batteries you can plug into your cigarette lighter that are supposed to maintain your settings. Never used one before so I can't guarantee they work.

I took the battery out of my lawn mower, jumpered it in while I got the battery for the GXP. I used my voltmeter to check the voltage on the temp battery, it registered 19.8 volts. I then realized why I did not diagnose the battery failure (dead cell), the Battery in my meter was bad... I replaced the meter battery and the GXP battery read 10.6 V, just about right for a dead cell.
A very funny story when it happens to someone else. Have a laugh on me!
Thanks again! I now I have good justification to keep this car, as my wife has been on me to sell it. We have too many cars, but this GXP is a great one.
