Where to 'wire in' radar detector?
I'm getting tired of looking at,and popping in a CD/cassette around, the coil-cord that'* plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet(radar detector mounted on dash with a velcro strip),..I want to mount the detector up by the mirror with the suction-cup bracket,.......where is the best place to tap into an ACC power source( I don't really want to run wires through the firewall into the under-hood fuse box)? Thanks for any input and/or suggestions.

assuming you have a 2000+ Bonneville, the fuse box is actually located under the back seat. I taped mine in the "audio" fuse which maintains power even after the car has been turned off. There are other fuses in there (as well as the battery itself) if you want a different connection, otherwise you may want to run it direcly to the back of the cig lighter for power. Current rating should be ok on the stock fuse, and power gets disco'ed after 10 minutes after the car has been turned off.

could also run directly to the battery and put a switch on it. or else tap into the cig lighter fuse or a fuse thats live only when the car is running

I didn't know that the power to the cig lighter shuts down after ten minutes of the car being shut off,...I only assumed that the cig lighter Always had power. That would seem to be the easiest place to tap into(not really sure why anyone would want to tap into the fuse block under the back seat..and then run wires all along the door-sills and up the A-pillar to the top of the windshield?).

my fuse block in under the steering wheel...thats why i'd do it
u might want to put in a bigger fuse for ur cig lighter with the little extra current draw

As for installing a larger fuse, unless you use your cigarette lighter, I would'nt worry about it. The radar dector is going to have minimal draw.

There is power in the overhead console for the garage door opener. You could wire into that and the power draw of a radar detector is minimal, no worries.

The car Would've had an overhead console(my other Bonneville, wife'* '01 SE has one).....but some 'fool' at the Factory went and installed a Sunroof smack dab in it'* place ,....cigarette lighter is the way I'll probably go...least intrusive to get at,and comes with a 30amp fuse/circuit,I believe........
