Tapping into the fusebox
I have a small neon around my cd deck but it takes up the cigarette lighter and I dont like how it looks so how do I properly cut off the lighter end and hook it up directly to my fuse box so it turns on every time the car is started?

you could wire it into something that turns on with your car with one of those quick connects that doesnt require unsheathing the wires and then just grounding the other wire on a bolt.
they look similar to that and you can get them at walmart for about $1.50

to tell you the truth, I would never advocate using t-taps for anything, they can come loose and end up flickering or not working at all after a while. I vote for stripping back insulator in a wire and soldering, or the cut and connect via connector of your choice. I guess it is not of great importance because it is just a neon, but I still would not recommend these for any project from personal experiences.

I definitely think it is a good idea to hook it up to something that has acc power, but I suggest doing it right the first time instead of doing it over and over, and having trouble with it. I would also add a switch to the neon if it doesn't have one, they can be annoying at times when you are driving in the dark for long periods of time.

It does have a switch that I mounted on the center counsole
And I of course want to do it right the first time I just dont know how. Is it a difficult task for someone who has little to no experience with this kind of stuff?

It'* not hard, the hardest part is finding a accessory power wire. You should use a volt meter to make sure the power goes on and off with the car. To ground, you can either hit a grounding point that the car already has, or make your own (anywhere on the frame, you might have to grind off some paint to make a good ground). When connecting wires you want to use buttconnectors, or some type of crimp connector, you could also take the other route and solder and tape, which ever you prefer.

Why dont you just tap into the ACC wire on the back of the radio? itll be the only wire that has 12 volts to ground only when you turn the key or ACC or ON. You could run it off the ORANGE wire that comes out of the ignition cylinder. I installed a sat radio in a 96 bonne using the ACC power behind the deck. If you want to use the cigarette lighter you can tap into it from behind so that you dont take up the plug. To hide the switch you can run it into your glove box or into your center arm rest if you want to get fancy. If you like the switch on the side there you could run the wires under against the carpet so theybe more hidden. Cut off the cigarette plug from the neon and hook the black/white to ground, and the solid black to power or ACC. To be safe, cut off the plug, and then test to see which wire goes to the center pin at the very end of the plug, thats your POSITIVE
p.*. for GROUND you can tap into the radio ground OR the cigarette ground, it works the same.
